Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula  and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.

HFE is Founded in 1974 by Drs Catherine and Reginald Hamlin have been caring for the women of Ethiopia for almost 40 years. As well as our main hospital in Addis Ababa we also have 5 regional hospitals, rehabilitation, and reintegration center and a midwifery school. We also deploy midwives into 25 health centers across the country and provide mentoring and other support services to these health centers.

 
Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia (HFE) is a world leading organization committed to the treatment and reintegration of patients suffering from Obstetric Fistula and the training and deployment of qualified midwives to prevent Obstetric Fistula and other child birth injuries.
Hamlin Fistula Ethiopia, in collaboration with stakeholders, has implemented a program called Project Zero with the aim of eradicating obstetric fistula from Ethiopia. We already launched this program at some part of Oromia region.  We want also ensure this project in Tigray region, South Eastern Zone, Searti Woreda. The project work focus on identifying historic cases of obstetric fistula, and transferring to the Mekele Hamlin fistula treatment center for treatment. And continue to implement quality interventions for the prevention of new obstetric fistula cases by building the capacity of the midwives working in the region’s health facilities and improving the service rendered to all pregnant mothers. For the successful implementation of the program, HFE needs to employ experienced candidate to be part of the program’s interventions, trainings, and mentorship in the areas as per the given job responsibilities.
Job Summary:
The team leader will coordinate the overall project- Zero Fistula eradication program in collaboration with Hamlin college of Midwives/Mekele Hamlin Fistula Center team through providing strategic leadership towards achievement of the project goal. In addition, he/she will also be involved in technical support for the team as deemed. This position also requires quality improvement approaches as well as current trends in service delivery, training and capacity building approaches that are based on scientific evidence.
Major Duties and Responsibilities of The team leader includes the following, but are not limited to:
  1. Serve as the main technical interface between HFE local stakeholders as it applies to Maternal and Child Health.
  2. Liaise with technical steering groups, HFE head office and Woreda technical working groups for project –Zero Fistula free Program.
  3. Oversee the team and motivate them to conduct their activities efficiently through planning and providing daily activities for the team.
  4. Prepare analyses, recommendations, briefing notes, and assessments of the project in relation to delivery.
  5. Anticipate and provide timely solutions for the identified challenges during the project.
  6. Address inefficient performances and provide timely feedback, as a team or individually, to improve the gaps.
  7. Work in collaboration with the Health Centers where Hamlin Midwives are deployed to support aspects of the strategic direction and leadership of the maternal and child health programming guiding linkages and integration within the overall health sector.
  8. Coordinate meetings with Hamlin College of Midwives central team and other HFE staff to provide regular updates on progress of achievements against set targets, program challenges and successes, as well as ways forward for on-going implementation.
  9. Be involved in analysis of data collected during project implementation to obtain evidence based trends and follow program progress against set targets;
  10. Lead and support the team to utilize data for informed decision making on program direction.
  11. Provide any technical support to Midwife mentors, woredas health offices and other stakeholders in the prevention of obstetric fistula, identification and referral of fistula patients and facilitate their treatment.
  12. Leads the planning and implementation of the project in line with the organization’s mission, policies, strategies and available resources.
  13. Submit timely report of the project, patient identification and progress of the project strategy, to concerned body when necessary.
  14. Liaise with technical steering groups for Fistula free Program.
  15. Liaise with the head office and technical working groups at Woreda health bureaus.
  16. Explores best mechanisms and make ongoing monitoring and evaluation of the project.
  17. Perform other related duties as assigned by the Supervisor.

Qualification: 

Key competencies and professional expertise required:

  • Excellent skill of computer software packages; previous experience with District Health Information System (DHIS) database packages preferred.
  • Fluent in English, Tigrigna, and Amharic languages and able to communicate with other local languages is preferred.  
  • Strong interpersonal, intercultural communication skills, able to work well both within a team and independently under stressful conditions.
  • Proven clinical experience, working in the delivery of maternal, and child health service.
  • Proven experience in developing and implementing service delivery protocols, norms and standards.

Education Requirement:

  • BSc in midwifery and MSc in Midwifery and/or MSc, MPH in maternal and child health related fields.

Work Experience:

  •   5+ years of related work experience as a coordinator in community based activities, such as managing health related programs/projects at national, regional or at Zonal level is preferred.
