INTRODUCTION

The BOMA Project is a fast-growing Non-Profit in US and a Kenyan NGO that is helping women entrepreneurs to start new businesses in Africa. The BOMA Team is growing. The Training Officer will support our programs in Ethiopia as we adapt and replicate approaches that lift women and their households out of extreme poverty.

 JOB SUMMARY

The training officer will be part of the BOMA team supporting implementation of REAP, BOMA’s poverty graduation model in Ethiopia. She/He will be responsible for building the knowledge, attitudes, and skills of the implementing team and partner staff to successfully deliver the Rural Entrepreneur Access Project (REAP), BOMA’s unique Graduation Approach, and adaptations thereof. S/he will guide through training of trainers, need-based design, customization, adaptation of training curricula and approaches, including provision of new content and approaches to achieve the outcomes. The Training Officer will support efforts to develop and apply monitoring and evaluation tools that measure quality and effectiveness of training delivery to inform continuous improvement and learning.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES 

  • Consistently build the capacity of the implementing team using a Trainer of Trainers approach to effectively deliver and implement REAP.
  • Support development, roll-out, and continuous improvement of BOMA’s core curricula on entrepreneurship and the graduation approach.
  • Support initiatives to deliver training in innovative and efficient ways, including but not limited to using technologies such as Interactive Voice Recognition (IVR) and radio.
  • Maintain schedule and track delivery of training for the partner staff and program participants.
  • Facilitate and co-facilitate training sessions for the partner staff, and program participants.
  • Organize and coordinate logistics for training activities in collaboration with the partner.
  • Document training outcomes through post-tests, evaluations, and other feedback and accountability mechanisms to inform continuous improvement.
  • Build the capacity of BOMA team and partner staff directly supporting REAP, to apply best practices and methods in training to their Graduation work.
  • Support training resource and needs assessments that identify strengths to leverage and gaps to be addressed with training.
  • Maintain digital and hard copy archives of training materials organized by project/partner.

Key Performance Metrics include:

  • REAP and Graduation Approach guidelines and principles well understood and applied by trainees (Partner staff and program participants)
  • Appropriate training adaptations are adopted and properly documented, along with learnings
  • Training plans are executed on time, on scope, and within budget.

 Internal Relationships

  • Training Officer reports to the Senior Training Manager
  • Training Officer works collaboratively with other members of the Kenya Country team and Ethiopia team (Graduation advisor, Program Manager, Associate Salesforce Systems Administrator, M and E officer). He/she will also work collaboratively with other implementing partner staff in Ethiopia not directly implementing REAP.  
  • Training Officer will collaborate with other organizations and government partners in Ethiopia

Terms: Contract (One Year) Renewable

Location : Ethiopia – Yabelo with travel to field locations

EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Sociology, Development Studies, or similar.

 MINIMUM REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • At least three (3) years of training experience, with preference for adult education, social and behavior change, and/or community development work.

 REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS & COMPETENCIES:

  • Commitment to the mission of The BOMA Project.
  • Proven expertise in delivering collaborative and engaging training that responds to learning needs of individuals, teams, and/or partners.
  • Experience working in livelihood programming. Experience with gender, savings groups, and/or market systems programs is an added advantage.
  • Ability to work respectfully and maintain productive relationships with people from diverse backgrounds.
  • Creative thinker with proven examples of using inventive local materials and/or limited resources to design and deliver effective trainings and/or behavior change activities
  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills in Amharic and  or Oromo.
  • Results oriented, with the ability to identify problems, design interventions and oversee their implementation.
  • Experience delivering field-based projects in an international or national organization.
  • Excellent teamwork, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Proficient in computer skills. Experience using Salesforce a plus.
  • Excellent time management skills, ability to juggle competing priorities and meet deadlines.
  • Ability and willingness to work in the Oromia region.
  • Ability to work under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
