Plan International’s first operation in Ethiopia started in Lalibela, in November 1974 and is currently implementing its program in Gambella, Benishangul-Gumuz, Afar, Oromia, Amhara, SNNPR, and Addis Ababa City Administration. Plan International Ethiopia will also continue low presence in Somali and Tigray. Furthermore, if there is a national-level emergency crisis in the country Plan International Ethiopia will respond quickly, effectively, and at a significant scale, even in areas where we are not present.

About the role

Plan International Ethiopia is seeking a highly motivated Communications and Advocacy Consultant to lead and support the development and implementation of its communication and advocacy strategy. Reporting to the Head of Influencing and Communications, the consultant will be responsible for supporting the delivery of high-quality communications and advocacy products, building and maintaining relationships with key stakeholders, and ensuring the effective dissemination of Plan International’s messages to target audiences.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a communications and advocacy strategy that supports Plan International’s objectives and priorities.
  • Create and manage content for various channels, including digital media, social media, press releases, and other materials.
  • Develop and manage relationships with key media outlets and partners to raise awareness of Plan International’s programs and campaigns.
  • Collaborate with colleagues across the organization to ensure that communication and advocacy activities are aligned with organizational priorities.
  • Monitor and report on the impact of communication and advocacy activities.
  • Support the development and implementation of global campaigns, including research and analysis, policy briefs, messaging, and communications and advocacy plans.
  • Provide strategic advocacy advice and support to Plan International country offices and program areas offices. Plan International’s Values in Practice

Closing Date: April 04,2023

Duration: 3 months with possibility of extension

  • Maximum a Master’s and minimum a Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism, possibly Social Science, Political Science and International Relation or a related field.
  • At least 7 years of experience in communications and advocacy, preferably in the non-profit or development sector.
  • Excellent writing, editing, and communication skills, with a proven track record of developing and delivering high-quality advocacy works and communication products.
  • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement effective communication and advocacy strategies.
  • Strong understanding of social media and digital media trends and best practices.
  • Experience in managing relationships with media outlets and partners.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with colleagues across an organization.
  • Fluent in English, with proficiency in at least one other language preferred.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
