BOORTMALT is the world leader malting company with 3 million tones production capacity whereby expertise is widely acknowledged by brewers and distillers who rely on the supply of top quality barley malt. BOORTMALT Ethiopia Plc is a foreign direct investment, registered EIC-IP/24910/09, engaged in the construction of a malting factory and a malting barley supply chain in Ethiopia.

Responsibilities:

Strategy & company objectives:

  • Understands, applies and conveys the Boortmalt mission and vision in order for the organisation to adhere to the expectations and values prioritised by the Group SHE Manager.
  • Is responsible for translating the general Group strategy into a national action plan in order to implement the Group strategy and to monitor effectiveness.

Business results:

  • Demonstrates leadership, takes tough decisions when needed, coaches and supports their team in order to create a motivated team that strives to meet or exceed the targets.
  • Takes ownership of their results by making sure that the investment in human and other resources allows to make the required benefits and by pro-actively setting actions into motion when needed (without Group SHE Manager intervention) in order to ensure at all times that their business areas meet its targets and budget.
  • Works in close collaboration with the members of the management teams to understand the key profit drivers, performance and budget variances and develops and implements corrective measures when needed.
  • Produces regular and accurate reports in accordance with Group standards in order to keep the Group SHE Manager and country management informed on how well the country is doing and uses this information to manage and improve business results.

Organizational structure & processes:

  • Develops, within the framework of the approved strategy, the necessary processes and policies, controls the implementation of it and organises corrective measures if needed so the employees are permanently driven towards the strategic goals and operational targets.
  • Leads the continuous risk assessment process, identifying the major operational risks, suggests and executes mitigation plans.
  • Sets SHE leading and lagging KPI’s as guidelines for his/her country according to the global SHE KPI’s. – Installs the attitude of continuous improvements in his/her organisation in order to ensure that the SHE level is gradually taken to a higher level.
  • Regularly checks the satisfaction of internal and external clients and uses this to define and execute action plans to improve on a continuous basis.
  • Prepares and sets up the annual budget for their area.
  • He/she communicates and monitors procedures, instructions and safety and security standards together with other managers and staff throughout the organisation.
  • Maintains the SHE system, including, but not limited to the internal consistency, document management & control. – Creates and owns the rolling safety roadmap and responsible for timely execution of the actions.

SHE Culture:

  • Contributes and supports a zero-accidents & incidents culture, thereby using all SHE/management tools available.
  • Makes sure that the different workplaces meet safety, environment and health requirements and apply corrective measures if necessary.
  • Implements company policies and safety training, assists in investigating (causes) in cases of accidents and incidents and in definition of the actions to be taken. – Establishes safety observation report process by all staff, evaluates reports and guides employees in hazard recognition.

SHE Awareness:

  • Takes part in internal meetings which include SHE topics, necessary to implement the SHE objectives of the company.
  • Takes an active part in Safety committees, thereby working with the local management.

Coaching & Development of Human Capital:

  • Coordinates the activities required to meet safety standards in the regional organisation through functional leadership & management, and a strong influencing on the respective regional and local managers.

Auditing & Compliance:

  • Ensures the compliance with safety and environmental legal requirements and other standards (Group standards, best practices of the industry, etc.).
  • SHE Manager will support the business within their country by undertaking internal audits to ensure the Company is compliant with the standards and requirements of our various accreditations.
  • Responsible for waste management and disposal.
  • Responsible for the security team, process and performance, compiling inputs for the Crisis Management Team, schedules and organizes the Crisis Management meetings

Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor’s Degree in related filed
  • 5 years in SHE at a relevant level,
  • Fluent in English & other languages are an asset
  • Profound Knowledge of functional areas:

     – she management & Business process management

                – international standards (ISO…)

                – Applicable (SHE) national laws and regulations for his/her region
