Duties and responsibilities
Senior Accountant can maintain the financial records of the hotel to effectively administer the Accounting Office staff and other sections of the Finance Department.
- To prepare and be responsible for the timely submission of all reports to the concerned bodies.
- To assist the Finance Manager in the efficient operation of the department and in the close supervision of all internal controls.
- Maintains the books of the hotel, prepares standard and miscellaneous journal vouchers for the monthly closings, and coordinates the various sections of the Accounting Department to ensure the timely receipt of input for the closing.
- Maintains the fixed assets register of the Hotel’s properties and ensures that fixed assets are periodically counted and reconciled with the register.
- Prepares final trial balance, profit and loss statement
- Reviews and coordinates the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and ensures that all supporting schedules and worksheets are prepared and updated on a monthly basis.
- Reconciles or ensures that bank account are reconciled monthly and that all reconciling items are investigated and cleared in the subsequent period.
- Prepares (or assists the Finance Manager in preparing) all reports required by the General Manager / Board of Directors/ Government.
- Supervises the Finance department personnel as detailed in the organization chart and in the absence of the Finance Manager.
- Participates jointly with the Finance Manager in preparing annual budgets and forecasts as required.
- Reviews an coordinates the reconciliation of all balance sheet accounts and ensures that all supporting schedules and worksheets are prepared and updated on a monthly basis.
- To monitor daily the official exchange rates to ensure that the hotels published rates are appropriate.
- Reconciles or ensures that bank account are reconciled monthly and that all reconciling items are investigated and cleared in the subsequent period.
- Participates jointly with the Finance Manager and Chief Accountant in preparing annual budgets and forecasts as required.
- Coordinates and reports inventory and cash counts
Prerequisites:
- Should have a high command of MS Applications like Excel, PowerPoint etc.
- Knowledge of back office or accounting systems like Sun, SAP etc
- Knowledge of Hotel Software like OPERA
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills
- Fluent in English, both oral and written
- Excellent financial/business decision making.
- Should possess strong Financial knowledge.
- Analytical skills and very well organized
Education:
- B.A. degree or Diploma in Accounting.
Experience:
- Minimum of Five years for B.A. degree and Eight years for diploma.
- Prior experience in hotel accounting area is preferable but non – hotel accounting experience acceptable. Must have previous experience that can be considered relevant. Must have good knowledge of accounting theory and local financial law..
