World Vision began its ministry in Ethiopia in the early 1970s and opened a national office in Addis Ababa in 1975.  World Vision operated emergency response programmes during the 1984 famine, followed by a period of rehabilitation (1986-87) and a self-review that came up with the concept of Area Development Programmes (ADPs) as a model.
World Vision’s work in Ethiopia contributes to the well-being of vulnerable children in partnership with the church, civil society and the government. Initiatives include education, food security, health, HIV and AIDS, water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as sponsorship management. All programmes are implemented with the goal of addressing the strategic and basic needs of children while supporting and building the capacity of families and communities. 

Purpose of the position:

The SH and BCC Officer will be responsible for the planning, implementation, monitoring and evaluation of the Sanitation and Hygiene and BCC activities within respective district and beyond based on the advice from the Sanitation and Hygiene and BCC Manager. The responsibility of the Officer is to implement the CIFF-funded behavior and life-changing interventions component of the STH and SCH transmission break (GESHIYARO) project for Woliyita Zone selected districts in SNNPR. S/he will provide technical support to HEWs, districts BCC focal including school WASH clubs as well as participate in providing essential support for MDA campaigns within the community. The incumbent expected to work in collaboration with the district health offices, local stakeholders, staffs of World Vision and partners for effective implementation and monitoring of the project activities. 

Major Responsibilities:

·       Provide technical support to the Zonal and district health workers, HEWs, and, School WASH clubs in carrying out essential WASH-NTD behavior changing activities in regards to STH/SCH disease transmission prevention and reduction.

·       Conduct WASH –NTD and SBCC related capacity building interventions to health workers, and HDAs and facilitate community mobilization activities.

·       Develop a SBCC annual work plan and take lead in implementing all activities therein with guidance from the BCC Manager.

·       Coordinate and follow-up the WASH BCC activities such as IPC trainings through counseling cards, comic books, and informative videos, school contexts, and other activities within the district level stakeholders.

·       Implement necessary corrective actions to ensure the integration of WASH and SBCC activities at the school and community level is at effect; and with the project catchment areas to ensure the project sustainability.

·       Conduct integrated supportive supervisions on Hygiene, sanitation and SBCC activities across the districts.

·       Participate in district and zonal environmental hygiene and SBCC coordination meetings, and document best practices and share to other areas and his/her supervisor.

·        Conduct any on call assignment given by the immediate supervisor in related to the scope of the project

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

Qualification required:

·        BSc degree in Public Health, Environmental Health and related fields.

 Required Professional Experience:

·        Minimum of five years of experience in WASH-NTD sector and on Social Behavioral Change Communication.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

·        Previous community mobilization work and mentoring experience in social behavior change communication.

·       Demonstrable experience in supervising, coaching and mentoring others.

·       Demonstrable experience in health or environmental health project implementation in NGO settings.

·       Work experience and training on CLTSH, BCC, and social marketing.

·       Demonstrable experience in working with communities and knowledge of participatory approaches.

·       Prior experience in an INGO / NGO is preferable

·       Excellent communication skills, both in oral and written in English and local language

·       Creates and encourages a climate of team-work and collaboration in a diverse cultural environment.

·       Consistently achieves high-level results, manages and delivers projects on-time and on-budget.

·       Analyzes and integrates diverse and complex quantitative and qualitative data from a wide range of sources.

·       Good understanding of the local cultural context.

Working Environment / Conditions:

Office-based with frequent travel to the implementation districts
