About Us

World Vision Ethiopia began its first intervention in Ethiopia in 1971 with relief and opened the Ethiopia office in 1975. Relief, rehabilitation, and small community development projects dominated the decade that followed. During the 1984/85 drought, World Vision Ethiopia participated in a massive relief operation that saved the lives of millions of people.

Starting its operation with emergency intervention in some parts of Ethiopia, World Vision currently operates in 53 Area Programs (APs) implementing effective programmes, such as Education, Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH), Nutrition, Emergency Response, Faith and Development, Food Security, Economic Development, Climate change, and environmental projects and other cross-cutting programmes.

GEOGRAPHIC COVERAGE

At present registered and licensed by Ethiopia’s Charities and Societies Agency, World Vision Ethiopia operates in 53 Area Programs (APs), coordinated by eight programme offices in eight regional states and one city administration.

Moreover, World Vision carries out emergency response interventions in Northern Ethiopia, Eastern and Southern Somali (Dollo odo and Bokolomaya), Oromia (West Guji, Borena, East and West Wolega, and East and West Hararghe), and SNNP (Gedeo).

This position is Maternity cover.

The job will provide leadership to the East and West Wollega and Kamashi EU funded Peace Building project implementation and monitoring. The job holder is fully responsible for the smooth, cost effective, efficient and timely implementation of the project activities as per the implementation plan and allocated budget. Coordinate and collaborate with the project consortium members to ensure operational and administrative support to project activities is provided and implemented as per agreed standards. Ensure stakeholders’ participation and involvement in peace building activities for success of their development process for sustainability.

  • Ensure project planned activities are implemented in line with the agreed work plans and budgets; successfully delivers against timeframes, milestones, output and outcome targets/objectives.
  • Ensure project team and partner staff are skilled and use the appropriate systems and tools for project management.

  • In coordination with MEAL officer, ensure good M&E practices are embedded, including documentation of good practices and case studies for visibility and reporting.

  • Maintain and strengthen existing partnerships and develop new ones to ensure delivery of objectives; ensure application of WVE’s people first principles and values in the partnerships.

  • Manage, coach and motivate a high performing project team within the performance management framework, ensuring application of WVE’s values.

  • Engage staff in project planning and review; supporting them to identify linkages between their work and delivery of WVE’s goals.

  • Professionally recruit and manage all consultants ensuring that their work is delivered as per the work plan and is contextualized to the operating environment.

Required Professional Experience.

Relevant technical expertise and considerable (at least 3 years) practical experience of applying peace building approaches and more than 3 years in leadership.

Considerable experience (at least 2 years) of design and implementation of relief and development in relevant fields in Ethiopia.

Required Education, training, license, registration, and certification.

Ability to work with local organizations and actors with knowledge about and experience from the relevant Local context, to utilize and ensure their capacity and continuous capacity development and to otherwise adapt ways of working accordingly.

Management skills, necessary to meet project requirements in terms of coordination, coherence and consistency of project implementation, financial management, monitoring and reporting.

Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications

Master’s degree in relevant disciplines – such as peace and conflict, Development studies, international development, refugee rights, displacement and migration – appropriate for leading a peace building and social cohesion in refugee and internally displaced people contexts.

Travel and/or Work Environment Requirement

The position requires ability and willingness to travel domestically up to 20 % of the time and on call 20%.
