About the Meba Micro finance Institution S.C.
Meba Microfinance Institution S.C, under Formation, is a microfinance institution registered by the National Bank of Ethiopia (NBE) as a microfinance institution under formation. Meba Micro finance Institution S.C. Under Formation has almost completed its preparation phase and is working towards finalizing the requirements of the NBE to commence a full-fledged operation. The head quarter of Meba MFI will be in Addis Ababa. The objective of Meba MFIs is to enhance the financial inclusion of the communities all over Ethiopia that do not have access to finance and financial services from conventional banks while ensuring a fair profit to its shareholders. Meba MFI currently has more than 980 shareholders.
As a new company, Meba Microfinance Institution is looking for a vibrant and competent candidate for the position of Manager, Operation Department.

Job Description
The Manager, Operation Department is responsible for plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and controls all operational activities mainly Credit , Deposit Mobilization and Branch Coordination; formulates policies and procedures related to operational matters and implements upon approval; ensures that branches /sub-branches provide efficient and effective financial services to clients and operate in compliance with company policies and NBE directives and regulations including that PAR is Within the limit set by the Board of Director; monitors branch operations and provides support.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Plans, organizes, directs, coordinates and supervises the technical and operational activities of the company in credit, deposit mobilization and branch coordination;
- Formulates procedures, policies and strategies on saving/resource mobilization for operational and technical matters and implements same upon obtaining approval;
- Establishes, oversees and directs the operational procedures for the work units and branches; Ensures that efficient services are provided to existing and potential customers;
- Plans, advices and coordinates in operational staff recruitment, training and efficient work output of the operation staff of the company;
- Prepares and submits long and short term plans and carries out revision based on market response and resource availability;
- Ensures that periodical targets are set for credit and deposit operation and are running smoothly;
- Reviews and evaluates periodic branch reports against plan and preset measurable indicators and check whether deposit mobilization and credit officers are on target; provides explanations for variances between actual and projections; takes corrective measures where actual figures fall short of projections;
- Prepares checklist on regulatory & MFI policy compliance to be used by branch managers and frontline staff and ensures the implementation of the same;
- Ensures that branches are equipped with the appropriate man power, equipment, facilities and provided with proper tools, guidance, coaching, technical support and information for effective provision of the services;
- Provide clear leadership and direction
- Develop proposals for further improvement of operation, including concepts for new products and services
- Ensure that the organization’s finance has been appropriately utilized to carry out major functions
- Manage, plan, organize, direct and control all the activities of an organization such as logistics, procurement, warehouse, property administration and the like.
- Identify and address problems and opportunities of the institution
- Undertakes periodical monitoring, follow-up and control of branch-level operation against targets, quality standards, and operational plan and ensures progress according to the business plan.
- Build alliances and partnerships with other organizations
- Conducts field visit periodically to scan business environment and provide support to branches; recommends revision of operating policies or formulation of new policies based on field visit findings, competitors’ analysis, audit recommendations and client exit and satisfaction survey results;
- Ensures that timely loan approval and disbursement is effected at clients’ convenience and loan collections are made on time;
- Ascertains that deposit mobilization is taking place as planned and high value depositors are attracted;
- Ensures that appropriate risk mitigation mechanism is in place at all levels of operation;
- Directs and monitors that portfolio quality is within the desired level and liquidity positions of branches is reliable.
- Ensures that loan write-offs and loan rehabilitation are managed and properly documented.
- Collaborates on market studies, product development ,product pilot tests and new branch site selections;
- Identifies staff skill gaps and propose trainings that capacitate staff to enhance efficient financial service provision;
- Prepares and submits annual plan and budget and periodic performance reports;
- Provides in-service training to employees on operations;
- Evaluates periodic performance of subordinates;
Education:
- Hold a minimum of first degree from a recognized higher learning institution in BA/MBA/MA/MSc. in Accounting, Economics, Management, or related fields.
Experience:
- 8/6 years of relevant experience, out of which three years in a managerial position,
- Excellent understanding of innovative systems and IT infrastructures in managing MFIs.
- Clear understanding and experience of micro-finance industry.
- Demonstrated experience leading and building cohesive, high-performing teams.
Skill, Values
