Accordingly, Save the Children Ethiopia is looking to hire creative individuals who have the experience and competencies to work; support the development of an organisational culture that reflects dual mandate values; help establish, maintain, and improve active and regular working relationships with host government authorities, partner agencies including humanitarian and development donors, and local and international NGOs; ensure Ethiopia Country Office complies with all Save the Children Management Operating Standards and Standard Operating Procedures and that all required support is provided promptly, at scale and in line with the rules and principles.

ROLE PURPOSE:

The purpose of this role is to provide essential support to Save the Children’s emergency programs in Afar, focusing on promoting accountability to beneficiaries with the objective of empowering communities and obtaining feedback on SC UK projects leading to improved quality and impact. The incumbent will work very closely with the MEAL Coordinator as well as all concerned project staff and project beneficiaries in establishing accountability mechanisms.

Dimensions: Save the Children works in all regions of Ethiopia with a current staff complement of approximately 1900 and current expenditure of approximately $190090+ million each year.

KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  •  Providing mothers with the necessary professional care and services during normal pregnancy and childbirth.
  • The midwife also provides mothers and baby with professional care and services during the first six weeks after delivery.
  • Monitor and observe the condition of pregnant women.
  • Obtain medical history and conduct screening tests as ordered by physician.
  • Assist mothers-to-be in their labor processes through midwife nursing care.
  • Provide follow-up nursing care to new mothers and their babies.
  • Educate new mothers on breastfeeding, bathing and dressing babies.
  • Instruct and educate mothers on related baby healthcare issues.
  • Administer medications as prescribed by the consulting physician.
  • Educate pregnant women on gynecological healthcare.
  • Instruct and counsel women on birth control issues.
  • Ensure at all times adequately equipped and supplied with the necessary nutritional and clinical requirements – Plumpy ‘nut, Vitamin A, routine drugs, nutritional equipment’s, nutritional/medical stationeries, etc.
  • Assisting the planning and promotion of awareness creation on nutrition and preventative health care issues in the community.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE

  • A minimum of diploma in related social fields, health, and other development studies.
  • A minimum of two years’ experience in working at community-based similar projects preferably with non-governmental organizations
  • Knowledge of the language of the duty station
