NTE was established in 1935 as Imperial Ethiopian Tobacco Monopoly, the National Tobacco Enterprise (Ethiopia) S.C (NTE) has a strong Ethiopian heritage and the global outlook of its parent company, Japan Tobacco International (JTI).
 
JTI is a leading international tobacco products company and the main shareholder in NTE. It owns 71% of the shares of NTE acquired from the Government of Ethiopia in 2016 and 2017. This is the biggest investment by a Japanese company in Ethiopia to date.

Currently, the Company is among the top public enterprises in terms of annual turn over, profitability, and its contribution to the economy as a whole.  Annual turn over has continually increased, on average by Birr 190 million, during the previous five years period.  Similarly, its contribution to the economy in terms of taxes paid, dividend to the shareholders and job creation to the citizen as a whole is persistently increasing.  Annual tax related contribution to the economy (VAT, Excise tax, Income tax, dividend tax etc) has currently reached more than Birr 700 million. In addition to this, the Enterprise with one cigarette factory at Addis Ababa and four tobacco development farms at Shewa Robit, Awassa, Bilatie and Wolaita has employed more than 934 permanent employees and 3,305 temporary and casual workers.

We are currently looking for a Leaf Operation Center Manager who can plan, organize, and control leaf production operations.

Your Purpose:

  • Planning, organizing and controlling of leaf production operations of the designated Curing center/LOC and includes.
  • Financial and administrative activities
  • Coordinates and monitors all operations are performed in a timely manner, according to the plan at Curing centers and on extension farms.
  • Ensures that leaf attains the targeted volume, quality and leaf integrity.
  • Provides timely extension services to growers and commercial farmers.
  • Promotes the image of the LOC and NTE.
  • Establishes healthy & good working relationship with growers, local government and non-government organizations.

Your Main Responsibility:

  • Plans, organizes, coordinates, supervises and controls all operations at the LOC and Ensures successful performance of approved STWC weekly, monthly & yearly plan for the LOC.
  • Ensures establishment of effective & respectful extension system with farmers within the LOC to enable farmers to smoothly accept & apply all directions & advice given by the agronomic team. 
  • Ensures efficient planning and co-ordination of harvesting in accordance with curing barn capacities and the availability of wet leaf transportation commensurate with tobacco leaf to be harvested /purchased. Ensures wet leaf buying after Clear separation/grading of 1st & 2nd grade.
  • Ensures all new JTI systems are fully implemented on the LOC on time, Ensures implementation of « Minimum Agronomic Standards » (MAS) in the concession and on extension farms. Ensures leaf loss reduction at all stage, cured leaf quality improvement.
  • Ensures that all EHS procedures and regulations are compiled within the Farm.
  • Manages human resources, property and financial administration activities at the LOC, in accordance with the company regulations, procedures and delegation. Controls LOC’s all costs & ensures the LOC costs are as per the norm.
  • To lay down and execute management policies for the department he/she is assigned.
  • Upon obtaining appropriate authorization, to hire, transfer, suspend, layoff, dismiss or assign employees reporting to him/her.  

Others

  • Manage various tasks & projects as they arise and upon Manager’s request.
  • You can be assigned in any other duties seen fit by management.

Education:

  • BSC in Plant Science, Agronomy, or Extension

Work Experience:

  • 6 years’ work experience in farm operations, of which 2 years should be at Managerial position.
