About CVM

Comunità Volontari per il Mondo (CVM) is a non-profit making Christian Organization based in Ancona, Italy. It was founded in 1978 by a group of people who had deeply dedicated but also had the concern to help people in their struggle to exist in this world irrespective of who are and where they are from. Comunità Volontari per il Mondo (CVM) has been working in Ethiopia since 1995, focusing its work on water, hygiene, and sanitation, HIV prevention, and control through socio-health interventions, promotion of social policies and human rights, promoting social inclusion and minority rights, support for training and access to education, socio-economic and micro-credit development, decent work for Domestic Workers and safe migration. 

Summary of the position

CVM is looking for a competent social worker with a preference for expertise in shelter management, returnees, and fragile people reunification and socioeconomic reintegration.

The post holder will be an employee of the CVM Addis Ababa office and will have filed a trip in order to visit the business of the returnees in the regions.

The social worker must have an in-depth knowledge of implementing returnees, minors, VOTs, and decent working conditions for migrant and local domestic worker’s projects with strong communication skills. He/ She will be responsible for implementing, reporting, monitoring, day-to-day follow-up, data collection, case stories, and best practices capturing.

The social worker is the person responsible to ensure each returnee reaches excellence in her business development and reintegration process, and that each business is backed up with timely, organized business scale-up training, update data analysis, and prepared best practices and lessons learned. He/she identifies himself/herself with the philosophy of the Organization and whose primary concern is to ensure that CVM projects are effective, sustainable, and have a concrete improvement in the life of beneficiaries.

  • Responsible to plan, implementing, controlling, coordinating, monitor activities under his/her portfolio,
  • Prepare plans of action (PoAs), develop training concept notes and cost breakdown of the budget, develop project narrative & tabular reports, and submit the draft to the project facilitator,

  • Prepare weekly, fortnight, monthly, and quarterly reports as per the donor format,
  • Ensure and is responsible that the organization’s resources (financial and material etc) are utilized with good care and according to the spirit of the organization, building up people’s projects,
  • Prepare and submit a monthly impact monitoring report to his/her supervisor,
  • Ensure that project activities are in accordance with the norms and standards of the donor and the Organization, as well as according to available budget lines and limitations.
  • Ensure through continuous monitoring that the impact of the project in the Area is sustainable according to the Project Framework.
  • Collect periodical data to monitor the project’s activities.
  • Ensure proper documentation (in soft and hard copy) and database of the project and use the follow-up and monitoring template provided.
  • Collect data and other information for potential projects when asked by the management of CVM.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with his/her portfolio and escalate as per the CVM systems and policies with support from the project facilitator.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Returnees’ Rehabilitation activities:

  • Conduct a rapid need assessment of the returnees, VOTs, and fragile domestic workers and follow the fulfillment of their needs,
  • Conduct beneficiary’s family tracing and contact them with their families at least once a week,
  • Conduct beneficiary’s satisfaction at least two times (middle and exit),
  • Prepare the database of beneficiaries within a day,
  • Work with the shelter team and follow the services rendered to the beneficiaries according to the international and CVM standard.

BBS and follow-up training: 

  • Organize BBS and follow-up training in Addis Ababa and other intervention areas,
  • Back up in the training sessions to identify gaps of returnees in relation to the business development of each and record,
  • Prepare training reports and share the gap for PF for continuous follow-up,
  • Identify the beneficiaries who need continuous follow-up and share with PF,
  • Follow up the business plan process of the returnees who received BBS and life skill training.

Business analysis and monitoring

  • Weekly, fortnight, and monthly business monitoring database of returnees and analysis of their business through different analysis methods.
  • Conduct financial counseling for returnees who started a business and follow for those who did not start.

Analysis and Monitoring of business will be undertaken by: 

  • Analysing financial data of the returnees and developing effective strategies to scale up their business,
  • Table, graph, chart analysis and reporting the result,
  • Filed monitoring,
  • Phone monitoring,
  • Prepare training reports,
  • Identify business gaps and design scale-up strategies.

Case stories, Best practices, and lessons learned

  • Collect case stories of the returnees,
  • Collect the best practices of the project,
  • Develop lessons for the project and recommend future interventions,

Other duties assigned by the immediate supervisor 

Qualification and Experience:

  • University degree in Sociology, Social work, and Business management.
  • 3-5 years of experience in returnees’ projects.
  • Knowledge and experience in working in business management of returnees and fragile people. 

Communication skills and competencies: 

  •  Has effective communication skills with girls/minors, returnees, VOTs, and women on the move.
  • Experience in engaging with a range of stakeholders, and staff and coordinating with government stakeholders.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Fluent in Amharic and English.
  • Computer literate and high proficiency with Microsoft Office tools (especially Word and Excel).
  • Build relationships with a wide range of individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Ability to work independently, displaying strong initiative in solving day-to-day problems with limited direction.
  • A team player committed to CVM values and pillars. 
  • Able to work under pressure, detail-oriented with the ability to manage, track and organize data, including numerical data.
