Its country office in Ethiopia, Good Neighbors Ethiopia (GNE) began operations in Ethiopia in 1997 and has since implemented multi-sectorial programs throughout the country. GNE currently manages, among other things, education, water and sanitation, health, climate change, child-focused community development, and emergency relief and rehabilitation programs. It employs over 108 people in five regions: Sidama, Oromia, SNNRS, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Amhara.

Good Neighbors International (GNI) is an international humanitarian and development non-governmental organization, operating in 46 countries with the focus on Community development. GNE has a 25-year track record of assisting Ethiopia’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations. GNE is present in Ethiopia’s Amhara, Oromia, Benishagul Gumez, Sidama, SNNPR, and Addis Ababa city administration. GNE will start operation in Gedeo-West-Guji Zone which entitled “Promotion of Livelihood and Social Cohesion in Gedeo and West–Guji zones, Ethiopia.” and we are looking for energetic & well experienced person. The project is funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan implemented by Good Neighbors Japan through its implementing partner Good Neighbors Ethiopia.

Overview of the Position
The Peacebuilding and Social cohesion officer takes overall responsibility for the implementation and management of peacebuilding and social cohesion component of the project as per donor’s requirement.
Duties and Responsibilities;
- Work with the project staff and all peace actors at all levels on overall supervision and successful implementation of the social cohesion component of the project.
- Engage with local governments, community members, on constructive activities to improve local governance and service delivery, as well as advance peace-building initiatives.
- Support an approach to incentivize local governments to become more efficient and accountable service providers.
- Facilitate activities with relevant regional and local governments, and various stakeholders including non-governmental organizations, the business sector, and academia, and other programs, as appropriate.
- Facilitate efforts to increase community participation in local peace building and conflict prevention (community dialogue) on peace building issues.
- Work with community members, to draft plans and facilitate a dialogue between committees and development partners, government bodies, or businesses to obtain financial/in-kind support and create partnership agreements to accomplish project goals.
- Analyze key assumptions, capacity gaps, service delivery needs, and to develop a deeper understanding of the local socio-economy to ensure success of activities.
- Support the project staff and project filed facilitate to ensure the project implementation to be effective and efficient.
- Develop activities to support a stabilization-enabling environment, such as social reconciliation, or any other activity that fosters a willingness to engage in peace building.
- Facilitate the development of appropriate and innovative relationship structures and organizational capacity cognizant of traditional structures, values, and practices.
- Follow up day-to-day activities of social cohesion activities and capacity improvements of the program (both at the administrative level and in the field), including oversight of staff under this specific component.
- Travel regularly (as security situation allows) to the field to provide technical support and follow up at ground level.
- Ensure that beneficiaries are effectively targeted according to established vulnerability criteria.
- Integrate community approaches, gender sensitivity and capacity building into all activities as appropriate.
- Ensure program implementation is on time, target and budget, using effective M&E systems to reach desired impacts.
- Carryout any other duties as outlined by the Project Field Manager;
Qualifications and Background:
- BSc/BA or MSc/MA degree in Political science, Sociology, Peace building, Anthropology. and related field;
- Minimum 3 year for BSc/BA and 1 year for MSc /MA in related activities.
Required Languages – English and Amharic ( Local language Affan Oromo and Gediofa)
Skills:
- Experience in food security, livelihoods, peace building and protection is preferred.
- Creative and able to work with limited resources.
- Ability to work independently with minimal or no supervision.
- Strong English language ability (both written and verbal) and ability to produce cohesive, informative reports.
- Computer skills
- Previous related experience in INGO set up is advantageous.
- Knowledge of working area and the local language is an advantage;
