World Vision began its ministry in Ethiopia in the early 1970s and opened a national office in Addis Ababa in 1975.  World Vision operated emergency response programmes during the 1984 famine, followed by a period of rehabilitation (1986-87) and a self-review that came up with the concept of Area Development Programmes (ADPs) as a model.
World Vision’s work in Ethiopia contributes to the well-being of vulnerable children in partnership with the church, civil society and the government. Initiatives include education, food security, health, HIV and AIDS, water, sanitation, and hygiene, as well as sponsorship management. All programmes are implemented with the goal of addressing the strategic and basic needs of children while supporting and building the capacity of families and communities. 

Job Description:

To implement World Vision Ethiopia’s Area Program Education project models, including Sponsorship, Private Non Sponsorship, and Education in Emergency projects, according to standards, donor requirements and the needs and expectations of communities and local partners to improve child wellbeing.  Work closely with District Education Office and local education actors including cluster supervisors, principals, teachers and other stakeholders to ensure the quality implementation and sustainability of WVE education programs. 

Major Responsibilities:

  • Plan and implement Education activities in partnership with communities, local government and partners as per approved yearly plans.
  • Maintain strong networks, collaborations and partnerships with communities, government offices and development partners in the District, to improve the delivery of quality service and sustain WV interventions.
  • Plan and implement efficient and effective monitoring activities in the AP to ensure the quality implementation and documentation system for SEE4C TP
  • Provide technical support to mobilize local resources and generate local funds for SEE4C project models
  • Plan and organize capacity building for local education actors at District, cluster and School level.
  • Assure that sponsorship is fully integrated into the planning, implementation and monitoring systems of the TP plan
  • Assure that relevant cross cutting themes (child protection, HEA, gender, disability, and environment) are integrated into the TP’s implementation.

Qualifications:  Education/Knowledge/Technical Skills and Experience

 Qualification required: BA Degree and above in Education:  in languages (English and local Ethiopian languages), Curriculum Instruction and Pedagogy, Educational planning and management and other related fields

Experience:  at least 3 years of experience in community rural development preferably in Education areas and NGO experience is preferred

Preferred Knowledge

  • Computer literate (Operate MS word and excel, outlook etc)
  • Knowledge and exposures to the socio-cultural situation of the region.
  • Good partnership management, knowledge of government working procedures and good negotiation and influencing skill.
  • Have passion as well as commitment for Education and integrated programs as a whole.
