Background

Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) is a non-governmental, non-profit making indigenous organization that was founded in 2003 by four school clubs and fifteen youth associations. Currently, YNSD is an umbrella network of more than 160 youth organizations and associations operating at national level.YNSD strive for sustainable development through promoting partnership, networking and building the capacity of its member organizations.www.ynsdethiopia.org.et

Youth Network for Sustainable Development (YNSD) in partnership with Mastercard Foundation implements Community Service Project in Addis Ababa, Sodo and Wolo. This Project envisions “equal opportunity for young people to learn and prosper, access to dignified and fulfilling work and contribute to their country’s overall development.”  The Community Service as Pathway to Work (CSPW) initiative aims to contribute to this vision by engaging young people (18 to 34 years) in a structured program of community service, training and by providing linkages to a comprehensive local network of public, private, and civic sector agencies that provide work-related placements and resources. The project will make every opportunity available to engage differently-abled youth as well as internally displaced persons (IDPs) which are directly impacted by the conflict and other vulnerable groups in the community. Multiple positions are announced below for hiring program team at Dessie and Sodo clusters who will be working at YNSD for the program implemented in the two clusters

Position Summary

The community engagement and capacity strengthening officer is responsible for the engaging the community in community services for their real participation and supporting the youth during implementation of the community services. The officer will assess and identify the capacity gaps of the partners and key actors supporting the implementation process and come up with capacity strengthening plans for efficient and effective delivery of planned activities at the cluster level. The will also look into the capacities of the youth leaders and the youth engaged in community services and plan for addressing their gaps in delivering their assignments as community service providers and leaders of the youth in cording the overall planned activities.  The officer, will also participate in the planning of activities in engaging the community and capacitating local actors in participating in the implementation of the program activities. The community engagement and capacity strengthening support the national office capacity building advisor in the overall in developing the overall capacity-building strategy for the program and cascading it down to the community level and will support capacity-development interventions at cluster level through the use of capacity building assessment tools.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support the capacity building advisor in assessing capacity strengthening activities for engaging the community and the youth leaders coordinating and leading the community services
  • Oversee the implementation of planned capacity building actions at the cluster level for YNSD and other sub grantees
  • Develop/adapt capacity development training manuals, cascade trainings for the target youth, institutions, youth leaders
  • Working with the technical team and other project staff, develop an overall capacity-building plan for the cluster office in line with the program resources and activities
  • Work closely with other team members and strategize cluster level capacity building activities in a flow that best meets the timeline and the available resources;
  • Coordinate implementation of all capacity building activities related YNSD team, sub grantees and other institutions working with the program
  • Coordinate the delivery of individualized technical assistance,  CBOs, CSOs and other participants of the program in the cluster areas for their efficient and meaningful participation;
  • In close coordination with technical staff, develop materials and design capacity building interventions to train and mentor other facilitators (training of trainers) at the community and cluster level;
  • In collaboration with other team members in the cluster, plan and provide technical support to youth leaders, youth engaged in community services, MSEs and other meaningful development activities to be efficient and effective in their work or business activities;
  • Oversee and ensure that appropriate mix and balance of training, technical assistance, coaching, mentoring, and information sharing is done at all levels ;
  • Collect all the necessary information, organize and compile the data, analyze and document it and periodically report to the national YNSD capacity building advisor and to the cluster manager 
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on program results that measure increases in skills and abilities, and determine the impact of training interventions;
  • Document successes, lessons learned and challenges in implementation as well as reports of program activities  at cluster level and report it to YNSD on quarterly and annual reports and other reporting requirements as requested;
  • Develop and draft program work plans, reports and other documentation as needed, such as training and resource materials, presentations, and budget proposal at the cluster level
  • Troubleshoot to identify and resolve project issues and implement improvement plans to ensure program activities planned at the cluster office are on schedule and within budget.

Number of Positions:  2 (one for Dessie and one for Sodo)

Location:  For Dessie and Sodo Cluster 

Required qualification, skill, knowledge and competencies    

  • BA degree in social works, development studies, or related disciplines with 2 years relevant experience;
  • Experience in supporting capacity building of youth, community based institutions and CBOs and other organizations supporting implementation of a program/project;
  • Excellent communication and partnership management skills ;
  • Both verbal and written fluency in English;
  • Team player and competent in using computers/data collection tools etc;
  • Experience as a trainer and/or expertise;
