Wetlands International is dedicated to maintaining and restoring wetlands— for their environmental values as well as for the services they provide to people. We work through our network of offices, our partners and experts to achieve our goals. Most of our work is financed on a project basis by governments and private donors. We are also supported by government and NGO membership.

Call for consultancy service to conduct an assessment of water pollution and its impact on water supply in ZIway-Shalla sub basin
Introduction
Wetlands International (WI)
Wetlands International is dedicated to safeguarding and restoring wetlands for people and nature. We are, driven by the knowledge that safeguarding and restoring wetlands is urgent and vital for water security, biodiversity, climate regulation, sustainable development and human health. In our disaster risk reduction work, we work from the principles that environmental degradation can lead to disasters and aggravation of hazards, and that the sustenance and restoration of healthy ecosystems are key to reducing disaster risk and improving community resilience.
Project Background
NL WASH SDG Consortium programme…DGIS financed, implemented in seven countries in Africa and Asia (Ethiopia, Indonesia, Nepal, Tanzania, Uganda and Zambia), with an aim/goal sustainably improving access to and use of sanitation and improving hygiene behaviours, and access to and use of safe drinking water.
The WASH SDG Programme in Ethiopia working on achieving sustainable and equitable use of WASH (water, sanitation and hygiene) by all following the three strategic objectives below:
- Improving behaviour change interventions leading to increased demand for improved WASH facilities and practices;
- Improving WASH service provision leading to increased availability and affordability of WASH products and services, which contributes to sustainable and equitable access to WASH;
- Strengthening the WASH governance and institutional framework leading to governments enabling efficient and effective delivery of inclusive and sustainable WASH services, which contribute to sustainable and equitable WASH.
To realise these objectives based on Theory of Change (ToC) the following four themes were, designed:
- Enabling the public sector; enhance effective planning and monitoring system
- More finance to the WASH sector
- Developing climate resilient WASH infra-structure
- Effective WASH market
In Ethiopia partners are: Amref (lead), IRC, Wetlands International, WASTE and Akvo.

Qualifications, Experience, Key Personnel Indicative Team Composition
Qualifications and Experience
The consultant staff should be composed of high level multidisciplinary team of experts with specialization and experience relevant to the proposed assignment. The consultant staff must:
- Have relevant qualifications and experiences to the proposed assignment.
- Qualifications related to environmental related discipline, environmental science, water resources management, natural resources management, water engineering, and experiences related to environmental pollution assessment, water quality assessment, aquatic ecology studies, water supply/ WASH and the like are considered relevant to the proposed assignment.
- Have a minimum of master’s degree in the field relevant to the proposed assignment.
- Have at least Ten (10) years of relevant professional experience
- Have proven experience in conducting relevant researches and studies on assessment of water bodies pollution and its impacts
- Previous study reports and publications relevant to the proposed research are advantageous.
Key Personnel Indicative Team Composition
Indicatively, the consultant team will comprise of one (1) Team leader and the following senior high level experts:
- Team Leader (Water Resources Management Specialist)
- Environmentalist, Climate specialist
- Water Quality standards Specialist,
- Aquatic Ecologist,
- WASH Specialist
