Its country office in Ethiopia, Good Neighbors Ethiopia (GNE) began operations in Ethiopia in 1997 and has since implemented multi-sectorial programs throughout the country. GNE currently manages, among other things, education, water and sanitation, health, climate change, child-focused community development, and emergency relief and rehabilitation programs. It employs over 108 people in five regions: Sidama, Oromia, SNNRS, Benishangul-Gumuz, and Amhara.

Good Neighbors International (GNI) is an international humanitarian and development non-governmental organization, operating in 46 countries with the focus on Community development. GNE has a 25-year track record of assisting Ethiopia’s most vulnerable and marginalized populations. GNE is present in Ethiopia’s Amhara, Oromia, Benishagul Gumez, Sidama, SNNPR, and Addis Ababa city administration. GNE will start operation in Gedeo-West-Guji Zone which entitled “Promotion of Livelihood and Social Cohesion in Gedeo and West–Guji zones, Ethiopia.” and we are looking for energetic & well experienced person. The project is funded by Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan implemented by Good Neighbors Japan through its implementing partner Good Neighbors Ethiopia.

Overview of the Position
The overall objective of the project is to improve the livelihood of people affected by the conflict and natural disaster and promote social cohesion between ethnic groups of Gedeo-West-Guji zone border areas. The Livelihood officer will be in charge of all project livelihood activities and related to the project.
Duties and Responsibilities;
- Responsible for the overall implementation, and monitoring of the agriculture sector in line with the project Activity, Expected results and objective;
- Provide inputs and technical feedback to allow clear modalities of the project implementation related to the livelihood activity is developed. This has to be done in consultation with all stakeholders, in line with relevant recognized standards of accountability, and in collaboration with Project Managers and Project field Manager.
- Ensure Livelihood activities are well-implemented by taking an active role in project work planning, and carry out the implementation of this activities;
- Coordinate and supervise project activities related to the livelihood sector in close collaboration with the responsible project staffs, relevant woreda line offices, targeted Cooperative and beneficiaries; ensure flow of communication is maintained with Project Manager.
- Organize/facilitate the project agricultural extension training activities; prepare training manuals, curricula and training reports for the project agricultural activities.
- Responsible for organizing experience sharing visits for targeted beneficiaries and disseminate good practices;
- Responsible for provision of on farm technical assistance to project beneficiaries and assist project field facilitator and/or local counterparts in providing technical assistance to the selected beneficiaries in livelihood activities;
- Responsible for collection of updates and information of sector reports (monthly, quarterly, and final technical as well as activity progress report) in accordance to the rules of the GNE.
- In coordination with the Project Field Manager, provide inputs, and as per direction of the Project Manager; lead or coordinate livelihood sector rapid assessment (including livelihoods, and agriculture cooperative etc.), organize and facilitate baseline and end line survey and compile report of findings and evaluate the impact of the project towards communities;
- Ensure that Beneficiary update and documentation are compiled as necessary and handover to Project field Manger;
- Conduct a project impact research in the project areas, share with all the concerned stake holders and give accurate recommendations to be used as action plan for further action;
- Anticipate challenges in project implementation, identify solutions, and work with the team in problem solving;
- Carryout any other duties as outlined by the Project field Manager.
Qualifications and Background:
- BSc/BA or MSc/MA degree in Agricultural economics, Development studies, rural development, Agricultural extension, rural livelihood and related fields;
- Minimum 4 years’ working experiences for BSc/BA holders and minimum 2 years’ working experiences for MSc /MA holders in related fields.
- Practical experience in managing grassroots agriculture development, livelihood, community/ rural development and peace building sector.
Required Languages – English, and Amharic, (Local language Afan Oromo and Gediofa highly appreciated

- Excellent interpersonal, communication and presentation skills;
- Ability and willingness to live and work in harsh and difficult conditions in an area of potential insecurity;
- Knowledge of gender and social inclusiveness.
- Ability to work with minimum supervision.
- Computer literate especially Microsoft word, excel, database and power point.
- Strong sense of integrity and personal commitment to the goals and values of GNE.
- Knowledge of working area and the local language is an advantage;
