Wetlands International is the only global not-for-profit organization dedicated to the conservation and restoration of wetlands. We are deeply concerned about the loss and deterioration of wetlands such as lakes, marshes and rivers. Our vision is a world where wetlands are treasured and nurtured for their beauty, the life they support and the resources they provide.

Wetlands International is dedicated to maintaining and restoring wetlands— for their environmental values as well as for the services they provide to people. We work through our network of offices, our partners and experts to achieve our goals. Most of our work is financed on a project basis by governments and private donors. We are also supported by government and NGO membership.

BACKGROUND

Wetlands International is a legally registered international NGO operating in Ethiopia (registration number 4143).  Currently, the organization manages 4 projects with eight employees, four of them are based in the Addis Abeba office. Wetlands International is edicated to safeguarding and restoring wetlands for people and nature. We are driven by the knowledge that safeguarding and restoring wetlands is urgent and vital for water security, biodiversity, climate regulation, sustainable development and human health.

Job summary

The position holder will be be responsible for general office routine administration work such as office cleaning, clerk duties and running errands to maintain an efficient office environment.

Responsibilities 

  • Provides efficient messenger services focusing on achievement of the following results:
  • Collection and delivery of letters, reports and other materials as required from and to the government agencies, supplier shops and other institutions;
  • Maintenance of records as required;
  • Photocopying and duplicating services;
  • Ensuring that tea, water and refreshments are served and provided to official meetings as requested;
  • Assist in the loading, unloading and movement of furniture, equipment’s and office supplies;
  • Perform variety of unskilled tasks as helper and messenger;
  • Remain flexible and work additional hours when required;
  • Other duties as required.

Provides efficient organization and cleaning services:

  • Keeping clean the office, kitchen, toilets, and the office environment at all times;
  • Paying attention and ensuring the hygienic standards of sanitary facilities at all times;
  • Keeps office room floors, surfaces, furniture, and carpets clean and hygienic;
  • Report on the stock status of toilet rolls, soaps, washing liquid, etc.;
  • Maintaining the organization of paper, documents, and clean desks and offices;
  • Supporting office hospitality in the presence of guests.

 Provide efficient office administrative assistance services:

  • Maintaining files and dealing with other administrative support tasks;
  • Organizing the office and assisting staff in optimizing processes;
  • Acting as a first point of contact: dealing with correspondence and phone calls;
  • Assist in the organization of travel by booking accommodations and reservation needs as required;
  • Maintaining office equipment as needed;
  • Responsible for reporting repairs and replacements encountered when executing daily tasks;
  • Prepare outgoing letters and reports for distribution (scan, copy, and bind documents);
  • Assist with event planning and implementation.
  • Perform work-related errands as requested, such as going to government and  partners’ offices to deal with organizational business, the bank, and insurance.

Reporting:   Finance and Admin Officer

Type of contract:  Temporary position for 1 year, including a probation period of 3 months.

Job Requirements

  • Completion of secondary education, diploma desirable
  • Ability to understand and speak English is highly desirable.
  • At least 1 year of work experience preferably with NGOs.
  • Warm personality with strong communication skills.
  • Ability to work well under limited supervision.
  • A strong work ethic, be reliable, and pay attention to detail.
