SNV
SNV is an international not-for-profit development organisation. We believe that no-one should have to live in poverty and that all people should have the opportunity to pursue their own sustainable development.
Founded in the Netherlands nearly 50 years ago, we have built a long-term, local presence in 39 of the poorest countries in Asia, Africa and Latin America. Our global team of local and international advisors work with local partners to equip communities, businesses and organisations with the tools, knowledge and connectionsthey need to increase their incomes and gain access to basic services – empowering them to break the cycle of poverty and guide their own development.
By sharing our specialist expertise in Agriculture, Renewable Energy, and Water, Sanitation & Hygiene, we contribute to solving some of the leading problems facing the world today – helping to find local solutions to global challenges and sowing the seeds of lasting change.
SNV is a mission-driven global development partner working in more than 20 countries across Africa and Asia. Building on 60 years of experience and grounded in the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, we work on the core themes of gender equality and social inclusion, climate adaptation and mitigation, and strong institutions and effective governance. Together with our team of over 1,600 people, our mission is to strengthen capacities and catalyse partnerships that transform the agri-food, energy, and water systems, which enable sustainable and more equitable lives for all. Ethiopia is a priority country for SNV. Currently SNV engagement in Ethiopia includes projects in the horticulture sector as well as PUE in the horticulture sector.
The Distributed Renewable Energy-Agriculture Modalities (DREAM) project is one of the first initiatives supported under the Global Energy Alliance for People and Planet, a joint initiative by Rockefeller Foundation, IKEA Foundation and Bezos Earth Fund launched at COP26 in Glasgow. The DREAM project has s strong strategic fit with SNV goals in general and for Ethiopia in particular. The project’s key partners are the African Development Bank (AfDB) through the Sustainable Energy Fund for Africa (SEFA), the Agricultural Transformation Institute (ATI), the Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) of Ethiopia, Veritas consulting, Keller-Bliesner Engineering, Odyssey Energy Solutions and SNV. The project will directly contribute to SDG 6 (clean water and sanitation for all) and SDG 7 (ensure access to affordable, sustainable, and modern energy) as well as to the National Electrification Programme (NEP II) which states the achievement of 35 percent of off-grid access by 2025.
