Job Description:

Excellence Environment and Development PLC (EED) is seeking a Senior Environmental Advisor to support a project on Environmental Peace Building in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia. This contract supports activities that aim to build a platform to create a public discourse. The advisor will be providing guidance and advice relating to the project activities, provide assistance on a wide range of project queries and follow up actions, facilitate workshop sessions, provide brief and detailed presentations of the project site, identify evolving needs of the project and recommend changes in the processes and procedures to support improvements in the project implementation and, perform other duties as required.

Responsibilities:

The advisor:      

  • Should have Knowledge of environmental science and environmental peace building gained through relevant technical training and experience,
  • Will work closely with and report to the Project Director and Coordinator to oversee the activity implementation and provide technical oversight throughout the project,
  • Will oversee the overall technical aspects of the project such as communicating with the stakeholders, conduct basic analyses in order to generate periodic reports and make recommendations for further actions,
  • Will build relationships with a variety of individuals across functions and outside EED in order to effectively contribute to the functioning of the unit,
  • Supervise and coordinate tasks of subordinates to be able to assist and supervise junior staff members,
  • Will work with minimum supervision and use initiative to perform administrative tasks within broad company guidelines and standards,
  • Will ensure that the program consistently employs the values of EED, ensures the highest ethical standards, emphasizes the importance of communication and teamwork, and represent EED in meetings with private and public sector stakeholders,
  • Will draft, edit, and make material contributions to the program document, any PowerPoint presentations, reports, studies, papers, survey instruments, and other operational documentation relevant to the project as required,
  • Will conduct field visits to the project site and assist in the invitation process of local and international organization representatives,
  • Maintain rigorous focus on the achievement of the program’s results and perform other duties as assigned on an ad hoc basis by the Project Director
  • Profound knowledge of the Ethiopian environmental laws and policies and strategies relevant for this service line.
  • Advisory or management experience in the areas of environmental legal and regulatory frameworks
  • Extensive work experience with the Ethiopian Environmental Protection sector

Qualification:

  • Master’s degree or higher, in Environmental Science, Environmental Pollution, Natural Resource Management, or related fields.
  • 6-8 years of full-time relevant professional experience in environmental consulting and direct supervisory roles is required, and expertise in Environmental Peace Building is also an added advantage.
  • Demonstrated experience and a proven track record of implementing and/or managing projects focused on environmental impact assessment, and mitigation activities.
  • A combination of technical familiarity and management skills that span the subject areas covered by the program (i.e. environmental pollution, environmental advisory and consultation roles, intergroup relations, environmental peace building and conflict mitigation).
  • Excellent communication skills in English and Afaan Oromo. Knowledge of Amharic is an added advantage.

Language

  • Fluency of both oral and written communication in English and Afaan Oromo. Knowledge of Amharic is an added advantage.
