Highlight Trading is a leading, profitable business company in Ethiopia. After its establishment in 2008, it quickly invested in different sectors like telecommunications, Manufacturing, Import-Export, High-end Printing, etc. In January 2019 the company became a super distributor of Ethio telecom scratch voucher cards and in one year, it sold 169 million voucher cards (VC) with a value of around 2.1 billion birrs. 

Position Summary

A Legal Officer is a law professional responsibility to make sure that the company’s business is adhering to the law. The legal Officer gives legal advice and monitors all applicable legal aspects. The legal Officer’s responsibilities comprise providing legal assistance, organizing various legal activities, representing the company at the court of law and government/nongovernment bureaus, creating legal documents, and advising the clients or the organization on all the relevant legal issues. The legal Officer has depth knowledge and Experience with the legal legislations, proclamation, juduris preceding. He/she has strong analytical, research skills, interpersonal and communication skills

Responsibility/Duties

  • Represent the company in legal courts, government official bureaus, and up on request.
  • Conduct legal analysis and research on various legal matters of the client or the organization
  • Introduce new legislation, proclamation, and regulation to the company officials and department.
  • Provide advice on different legal issues and assist in drafting legal opinions, memoranda, contracts, litigations, and dispute resolution and guide the company in making an appropriate decision.
  • Actively involved in preparing and drafting different acts and legal submissions and drafting the authoritative legal opinions as well.
  • The review, negotiation, and drafting of all types of commercial agreements.
  • Assist in reviewing the legal material and any other relevant documents and identifying the most important issues that need to be sorted out on a priority basis
  • Draw up formalities regarding the settlement of disputes and monitor the implementation of the legal clauses
  • Review and ensure the company policy, regulations and manuals are followed the legal requirement stated by the government.
  • Eliminate and/or pre-determine risk and liability that affect the company’s best interest, and material interest.
  • Assist Managing directors, Board of directors, and Department units in legal support.
  • Good understanding of the Telecommunication Industry and working practice in the society
  • Good communication skills with clients, Employees, and the management.
  • Willing to travel the out of Addis Ababa, if needed

Qualification and Experience

  •  LLB Degree from a recognized University
  • 2 Years and Above practical Experience with a License

Languages

  • Fluency in spoken and written English Amharic
  • Speaking and written Afan Oromo is a plus
