Mission
Mahibere Hiwot for Social Development (MSD) is a non-governmental and non-profit making organization founded in October 1999. Since its establishment, MSD has been implementing different programs in collaboration with partners on providing broad range of HIV prevention, care and treatment services and Sexual and Reproductive health (SRH), Migration & Trafficking, Good Governance, Education and Child Development in different parts of the country.
MSD is a child safe organization and all successful applicants will be required to sign the Safeguarding Code of Conduct. MSD is looking for qualified and competent applicants for the following position:-
JOB SUMMARY
Under the supervision of the Finance Officer, the Sr. Accountant is responsible for maintaining accurate and complete financial records in accordance with International Accounting Practices and MSD’s Accounting and Financial Policies and Procedures. He/she also monitors the accuracy and completeness of head office project transaction and Area Office reports.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Provides technical support and training to accountants working at Area Office and Project Offices;
- Assists regional office to comply with financial management policies and procedures of MSD and donor organizations
- Prepares journal entries for, transfers, correction and adjustments;
- Enters all financial transaction and data into the computer/accounting system;
- Support immediate supervisor for monthly payroll preparation is in accordance with policies and procedures of MSD’s and donor organization.
- Maintaining and reconciling balance sheet and general ledger accounts of head and regional offices
- Whenever deemed necessary and in consultation with immediate supervisor prepare monthly donors project financial reports.
- In consultation with immediate supervisor, ensures the timely settlement of payroll tax, pension, staff provident fund and other obligations;
- Verifies and ensures the required documentation and authorization is presented before effecting payments and encoding data into the system;
- Ensures that planned activities are carried out in line with the approved annual plan and budget ;
- Processes payments which involve ensuring all payments are adequately supported by appropriate documentation;
- Ensures that the necessary format and documentation is used before and after payment is effected;
- Ensures all suppliers invoices and bills are paid on a timely basis;
- Performs other duties as assigned by immediate supervisor.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION/TRAINING
- BA in accounting and finance, commerce or related field.
EXPERIENCE
- 4 years of direct work experience out of which two years as a senior accountant position.
- NGO experience add values
- Work on USAID and EU funded project experience adds value
TECHNICAL AND OTHER SKILLS
- Good communication and presentation skills;
- Well organized and ability to act in a professional and ethical manner;
- Detail analytical and interpretation skills of financial data
- Competency in computer applications, email and Microsoft offices;
- Knowledge of accounting software/Peachtree accounting software
