Purpose of Post

To professionally assess the education level of children in the shelter and provide individualised teaching program to help children to achieve their potential.

To help children grow a positive social skill, behaviour and learning non-violent ways of expressing themselves and their emotions 

Key Duties and Responsibilities

Education (35%)

  • Professional assessment of each child’s ability and designing a learning programme to meet their individual needs
  • Conducting regular and planned teaching programmes relevant to individual children’s needs
  • Follow-up of those children who are not regular attendees of programme
  • Participate, in collaboration with other staff team members, in running life-skills and any other shelter-based activities
  • Keep good, accurate and confidential records of all education sessions and make referrals to those who require psychological or psychiatric assessment/treatment
  • Provide weekly life skills lessons on education and learning skills within the Life Skills program.
  • Participate in regular child care review meetings to help the team build on strategies to best help individual children/their behaviours/their life-plans.
  • Monitor children’s needs in order to remediate educational deficiencies
  • Create a classroom environment that is conductive to learning and appropriate to the maturity and interest of the students
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 Team & Partnership Working (30%)

  •  Work with the Shamida team to deliver the service and contribute for good team spirit
  • Support the head teacher to ensure quality education is delivered at shelter.
  • Support and provide appropriate recommendation regarding best interest determination (BID) panel to guarantee best interest of the children.
  • Advocate for educational referral support services for beneficiaries

 Planning and Reporting (25%)

  • In collaboration with the project team and stakeholders prepare detail annual and quarters action plan and ensure the implementation.
  • Closely work with Head Teacher and project staffs in the course of implementing the school program.
  • Facilitate and ensure the involvement of children as primary stakeholders in all project work.
  • Ensure preparation of timely and quality monthly, quarterly and annual project progress reports.

Respect of confidentiality (10%)

  •  Strictly respect the confidentiality of data, being the property of the project beneficiaries and Shamida
  • Ensure beneficiaries files/ data are properly put and locked
  • Comply with Shamida policies and practice with respect to child protection, code of conduct, health and safety, equal opportunities and other relevant policies and procedure

  • Respect the confidentiality regarding the content of interview during assessments.

 General:

Experience

  • A minimum of 2 years’ experience

Education/ Qualifications

  • A bachelor’s degree in teaching or relevant field from a recognized university 

Skills and Knowledge

Essential

  • Be empathetic and have an understanding of the issues surrounding vulnerable children
  • Ability to work in a team and independently
  • In-depth knowledge of teaching methods and educational procedures
  • Experience in OVC education instruction is an added advantage
  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-organized with excellent leadership abilities
  • Exceptional interpersonal and presentation skills
  • Experience in the areas of protection including GBV, child protection and psychosocial support
  • Interested to work under pressure and in harsh environment
  • Previous related experience in NGO setup is an advantage
  • Experience and ability to work with children of all ages including teenagers;
  • Ability to work both independently and as a team member;
  • Essential computer literacy (MS word, excel and internet)
