The role of the National Water Resources Management Specialist is to contribute to the work of the R-PCU in the planning, implementation and operation of all measures related to the management of water resources in particular for wise use and conservation of the limited water resources.
Project title: Strengthening Drought Resilience in Ethiopia (SDR3)
Period of project: Approximately 02/2023 – 08/2026
Duration of Assignment: 24 months
Country: Ethiopia
Duty station: The duty station of the expert will be the Afar region
Education:
- Postgraduate degree in Integrated Water Resource Management, Soil and water conservation or a similar discipline
Sectoral experience:
- Good knowledge and at least 7 years of practical experience in hydrology and water resource management in dry and semi-dry areas;
- Track records for projects related to multidisciplinary, integrated approaches in water resource management, involving ecological, scientific, political, hydrological, and planning skills;
- Proven experience in the planning, establishment and operation of soil and water conservation measures;
- Experience in working with rural communities (pastoral and semi-pastoral communities); experience and proven track record in participatory methods;
Regional experience:
- Experience in work in rural areas in drylands through long-term assignments (lowland Ethiopia such as Afar or Somali region)
Donor experience:
- Previous experience with work for donor-funded projects in similar positions;
Language skills:
- Proficiency in the English language;
- Proficiency in Afar language would be an asset.
