The junior accountant will assist the financial department by managing daily accounting and financial tasks and will work with the finance team and other Precise teams to keep the books in order. The junior accountant is expected to be detail-oriented, have strong problem-solving skills, work comfortably under pressure, and deliver on tight deadlines with the ability to work on their own initiative and as part of a team. The junior accountant is expected to be well-versed in accounting principles and able to work comfortably with numbers and pay attention to detail. Under the supervision of a senior accountant and finance director, the junior accountant will assist in the preparation and submission of taxes and other financial reports, submit payroll taxes, and reconcile ledgers and will be responsible for staying abreast of the Ethiopian tax law and customs authority guidelines as well as standards. The goal is to contribute to the overall efficiency of the finance department and make the company fully aware of its financial condition.
Responsibilities
- Post and process journal entries to ensure all business transactions are recorded.
- Update accounts receivable and issue invoices.
- Update accounts payable and perform reconciliations.
- Assist in the processing of balance sheets, income statements, and other financial statements according to legal and company accounting and financial guidelines.
- As needed, assist with the review of expenses, payroll records, and so on.
- Update financial data in databases to ensure that information will be accurate and immediately available when needed.
- Prepare and submit weekly or monthly reports.
- Assist senior accountants in the preparation of monthly and yearly closings.
- Assist with other accounting projects Cash payments, check payments, and deposits for different projects were made at the bank.
- Analyze financial information and prepare balance sheets.
- Coordinate with management and staff to prepare budgets.
- Ensure compliance with organizational guidelines and procedures and Ethiopian tax regulations.
- Resolve account payable and receivable issues or queries.
- Comply with Generally Accepted Accounting Principles and International Financial Reporting Standards for financial statements.
- Assist in financial and tax audits, and general ledger preparation.
- Prepare monthly and quarterly income tax, pension, and VAT returns under the Ethiopian revenue and customs authority reporting requirements.
- Ensuring that financial administration functions well in accordance with the company standard procedure
- Effectively coordinating with the staff of the finance team.
- Handles petty cash accounts and effects accurate and timely payments for goods and services.
- Secures and records financial transactions on a daily basis.
- Raise a cash receipt voucher (CRV) for cash collection in advance and a cash payment voucher (CPV) for cash and check payments.

- Processes and issues Where applicable, withhold a tax receipt from the payer.
- Maintains and files financial documents properly; follows up on the collection of VAT receivables.

- A bachelor’s degree in accounting or a closely related field is required.

- Additional qualifications in IFRS and Peachtree are a big advantage.
