Women Empowerment-Action (WE-Action) is an indigenous non-political, non- religious, non-profit, humanitarian and development-oriented civil society organization working in Ethiopia to the improvement of the social, economic, and physical well-being of the poor women in particular and the community in general. Currently the organization is operating in three regions SNNPR Amhara National Regional States and Oromia National Regional State.

  Scope of the position

  •  The Gender and Social Inclusion Coordinator is responsible for mainstreaming of gender and social issues and proactive technical support to the gender and social inclusion work of the organization. Work very closely with all sections and partners to ensure that gender equity and social inclusion principles are incorporated across programs and organizational practices.

 Gender Equality Document Development:

  • Undertake periodical organizational gender audit, review organizational gender policy, and amend policy commitments based on the findings.
  • Develop gender mainstreaming guide for projects and communicate with project implementation staffs.
  • Review and regularly update organizational gender conversation manuals.
  • Develop gender equality marker that serve to evaluate the gender integration status of projects and evaluate and label projects designed before submission to funding partners.
  • Develop gender equality and social inclusion program and organizational strategies and communicate for program managers.

Gender  and Social Inclusion Mainstreaming:

  • Assist program managers to integrate, implement and report gender and social inclusion in their annual work plan.
  • Assist Program Coordinators & Program Quality  section in collection and compilation of Gender equality and  social inclusion project data
  • Provide capacity building training on gender mainstreaming for field project implementation staffs.
  • Provide very close support and follow up for GBV projects, provide technical support in GBV case handling and reporting systems, GBV survivals safe house management etc

 Gender and Social Inclusion Monitoring and  Reporting:  

  • In collaboration with M and E coordinator ensure that project indicators are gender sensitive and responsive.
  • In collaboration with M and E coordinators develop gender responsive monitoring tools and communicate with program team.
  • Conduct field monitoring on gender equality indicators and developed report.
  • Develop annual organizational report on gender equality and social inclusion transformation.

Competency , Compliance  and performance:

  • Develop the gender competences of WE-Action employees, develop annual gender capacity building plan and implement the plan.
  • Regularly monitor WE- Action’s compliances to organizational gender policy commitments.
  • Review the human resource recruitment plan for gender responsive HR recruitments and work strongly to ensure gender balanced recruitments and increase the percentage of female employees as per the commitment of organizational HR policy.
  • Check and review that gender is consistently integrated in employees’ job description and performance evaluation
  • Develop self-development plan and improve competency and efficiency to the position.

Organizational Gender Transformation:

  • Ensure that communications and products of WE-Action are gender sensitive.
  • Lead organizational Gender Equality and Social Inclusion working Team.
  • Plan and influence the management for female employees’ career advancement and gender responsive organizational resource allocation.
  • Assess management decisions for gender responsive decision and inform the management if there is gap in gender responsive decision at all level.
  • Review organizational policy documents and ensure that gender responsive provisions are adequately integrated and effectively implemented.
  • In collaboration with Organizational Development section work towards ensuring the working environment of WE-Action is safe and female friendly.
  • Develop periodic news on gender equality and social inclusion transformation and communicate.
  • Regularly update the gender page in the website

 Knowledge Management and Learning:

  • Obtain first hand field information on the success, relevance and appropriateness of developed program strategies for lessons and learning.
  • In collaboration with Organizational Development and Administration regularly update organizational website and upload new development, learning and success stories.

Compliance and Performance:

  • Read, understand and strictly respect donors and government compliances and support field office to respect the required compliance.
  • Strictly follow and adhere to organizational policy and standardization manuals.

Accountability and transparency:

  • Ensure that communications and products of WE-Action are visible in project area
  • Adhere to the organization accountability framework; communicate for employees for effective implementations.
  • Implement WE- Action compliances to Core Humanitarian Standards (CHS) and develop communities’ capacity accordingly.
  • Participate in external verification process of WE- Action Core Humanitarian Standards.

Safeguarding:

  • Able to seek appropriate advice and report concerns, and feel confident that they have been understood.
  • Understands local safeguarding structures and arrangements.
  • Practices in a manner that seeks to reduce the risk of abuse, harm or neglect.
  • Conduct routine risk assessments, monitor and report any issues related to Safeguarding.
  • Create awareness to community, target groups and peers on safeguarding during weekly, monthly, and quarterly dialogue sessions.
  • Participate in organizational conversations to discuss on cross cutting issues such as gender, HIV, safeguarding, social inclusion etc…
  • Identifies and refers to appropriate services any other associated persons including careers, family members and children at risk.
  • Able to document safeguarding concerns, and maintain appropriate record-keeping, recording the wishes and views of the adult or child at risk, differentiating between fact and opinion.
  • Gather feedback and complaints on any concerns of the project implementation and organization and formally document and report back to field offices with a confidential and secure manner.

      Employment Type:  Full time for one year with the possibility of extension based on the performance and budget source


      Currently, WE-Action is seeking to hire competent, qualified and interested candidate for Female applicants preferable.

      Job Requirement:

      • MA/MSc/BA/BSc in Development Studies, Gender Studies, Sociology, Social Anthropology
      • 4 years related work experience for MA/MSc and 6 years work experience for BA/BSc  in similar fields
      • 2 years experiences in Gender and Social Inclusion Coordinator position in NGOs
