Mothers and Children Multisectoral Development Organization (MCMDO) is an indigenous, nongovernmental, nonprofit and humanitarian organization founded in 1997. It was formerly known as Welfare for the Street Mothers and Children Organization (WeSMCO) and was renamed in 2009 to incorporate the broadened thematic areas the organization is increasingly dealing with. The same year MCMDO reregistered in accordance with the Charities and Societies proclamation No.621/2009 as an Ethiopian resident charity organization with certificate number 0022. MCMDO has implemented more than 148 projects in the last and benefited around seven million five hundred beneficiaries all over the country.
Initially the organization’s focus was preventing ‘street-ism’ and promoting rehabilitation but has gradually increased to encompass 7 thematic areas: Health, Education, Skills Training, Family and Community Support, Water and Sanitation, Urban Agriculture and Environmental Protection and Economic Empowerment of women. MCMDO currently works in 2 administrative cities and two hundred fifty woredas.
- Closely follow and supervise activities at IDPs/returnees and Host communities level WASH response component of the integrated Health and WASH PROGRAM.: maintenance and rehabilitation of water supply system ,and distribution of WASH NFIs and water treatment chemicals, hygiene related trainings etc. Ensure the quantity and quality of water delivered met the standards.
- establish collaborative relationships within MCMDO at all levels, communities, local partners, WASH clusters and local government.
- plan the design and prepare BOQ of water scheme rehabilitation and maintenance .Undertake the implementation and the monitoring of water schemes maintenance and rehabilitation in different intervention areas
- Prepare, submit and document quality and standard project progress reports on weekly, monthly and quarterly bases.
- Follow up quality of water in the pipe line, ponds, HH level—etc through chemical and bacteriological testing
- In collaboration with the Hygiene promotion officer and relevant stake holder conduct qualitative assessment to identify contributing factor for hyeigine and sanitation malpractice and design intervention strategy
- Ensure registration of beneficiaries based on vulnerability criteria and facilitate for independent verification to avoid inclusion and exclusion error
- Make sure Accountability to affected people system and implementation is in place during distribution of WASH- SNFIkit
- Preparation of payment sheet and carry out distribution with active participation of the community and Government stake holder
- Strengthen WASHCO through training and provision of tool
- Work with Environmental Agents and target beneficiaries to identify volunteers/incentive workers for hygiene promotion/education,
- Undertake assessments to identify appropriate hygiene NFI needs and ensure distribution based on final verification result
- Any additional tasks assigned by his/her supervisor
- BSc in Hydraulic or water resource engineering or other related fields;
- Good experience on design software like AutoCAD, water cad & related
- Good experience on study, design and implementation of water supply schemes
- very good written and spoken English – Essential and Tigrigna is an asset
- Previous experience of implementing participatory hygiene promotion and sanitation methods (e.g. PHAST, CLTS/H, ) and organizing campaigns on key hygiene themes – Preferable
- Ability to work as part of a team as well as to work autonomously when required; – Essential
- Good experience on producing construction specifications, Drawings, bill of quantities & construction schedule of the works to be carried out.
- Experience in CLTS approach
- experience of working with international NGO, UN or donor agenciestal Health science.
