KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation

We are an organization of passionate TB professionals, including medical doctors, researchers, training experts, nurses, and epidemiologists.Over the past century we have built a wealth of knowledge and expertise, initially by successfully driving back TB in the Netherlands, and subsequently by partnering in the fight against TB in over 40 countries worldwide. We operate from a central office in The Hague in the Netherlands and additional country offices worldwide. KNCV raises funds from individual, institutional and corporate donors.
The corona-virus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic is a global public health and economic threat. It was declared as a public health emergency and pandemic in March 2020. Since then, millions were infected and died due to COVID-19 across the world. In Ethiopia, a total of 465,158 COVID-19 patients were reported and 7,337 people died due to COVID-19 by February 07/2022. In Ethiopia, current available testing options for diagnosis of COVID-19 are reverse transcriptase polymerization chain reaction (RT-PCR) and healthcare worker administered Antigen rapid diagnostic testing (Ag RDT).
Alternative testing modalities such as self-testing with Ag-RDT is a way to reach more people and a step forward to empower individuals by bringing healthcare services closer to them. However, currently there is no Ag-RDT self-test service in Ethiopia. Thus, to accelerate access to Ag-RDTs at point of care, it is crucial to assess the acceptability and feasibility of self-administered Ag-RDTs, including the identification of barriers and facilitators for successful implementation and rapid roll-out in Ethiopia.
The IMPAACT4C19 project aims to improve access and uptake of effective COVID19 diagnostic and treatment solutions by integrating COVID19 service delivery models into existing health services in selected health facilities in Ethiopia. The project will also generate evidence for effective policy making on the acceptability, feasibility, effectiveness, and cost effectiveness of Ag-RDT self-testing for COVID-19 diagnosis. The project will be implemented in collaboration with the local health decision makers and different stakeholders at each level of the health system.
Purpose of the position and organizational position
As part of the IMPAACT4C19 project in Ethiopia, KNCV Tuberculosis Foundation will conduct a feasibility and acceptability study on COVID-19 self-testing which consists of both quantitative and qualitative data collection and analyses, and an effectiveness and cost effectiveness study.
