Overview

The Bridges to Prosperity (B2P) Ethiopia Rural Access Program is a new program led by Bridges to Prosperity and Helvetas that partners with the Ethiopian government to build trailbridges and rural roads, build technical capacity within the rural transport sector, and implement innovative research and learning strategies. The program is currently funded for three years and is expected to be extended.

To support our ambitious growth strategy, we are on the hunt for a high-performing Senior Accountant who will be responsible for day-to-day accounting, including accounts payable and receivable, balance sheet reconciliations, and preparation of monthly financial statements.  This position will support the Controller with many aspects of month end close as well as respond to ad hoc accounting needs as they arise.

Job Summary

The B2P Ethiopia Program Manager (PM) serves two primary goals: (1) managing B2P Ethiopia field operations, and (2) liaising with Helvetas Ethiopia staff in service of productive collaboration and learning between B2P and Helvetas. The PM will be responsible for all B2P-ledfield activities, primarily related to research studies and government advocacy. As B2P is the primary contractor on the project, the PM will be accountable for day-to-day communication with Helvetas Ethiopia, and project reporting on behalf of the entire project, including Helvetas Ethiopia field activities. The PM role requires an individual with strong program management and communication skills, able to work with a diverse range of stakeholders.

Responsibilities

Field Management:

  • Manage and lead B2P’s field activities as part of the larger Rural Access Program including direct management of approximately 10 staff and short term consultants;
  • Manage field-based research and monitoring activities, including enumeration and liaising with key Helvetas Ethiopia staff and local stakeholders;
  • Support B2P global staff in technical assistance programming, ensuring lessons learned are documented including identifying key areas and opportunities for technical assistance learnings and liaising with the relevant technical leads within B2P and Helvetas to ensure deliverables are identified and delivered;
  • Support the B2P Needs Assessment Program by providing in-country management and logistics support;
  • Set and review project timelines and finances;
  • Direct the mobilization, management, and accounting of all B2P financial resources in Ethiopia;
  • Ensure proper use of technology systems in-country, as well as data quality and security to enable reporting and analysis.

Communication and Reporting

  • Communicate effectively with all project partners regarding project status;
  • Coordinate and convene stakeholders, including  government representatives, funders, researchers, technical experts, and implementers;
  • Support the collection of project-specific marketing and public relations content for B2P, in partnership with B2P Global Marketing staff and Helvetas contacts;
  • Liaise with B2P Global Business Development team and Helvetas Ethiopia staff to manage  project reporting and compliance activities in accordance with grant requirements;
  • Support external research partners by facilitating communication and logistics between the research team and Helvetas Ethiopia;
  • Lead the development of key project outputs, including process standardization and documentation in service of global technical assistance.

Advocacy

  • Support the design and implementation of partnership engagement strategies with Helvetas Ethiopia and B2P global strategic partnerships team;
  • Manage partnership consultants through strong communication and close tracking on deliverables;
  • Support the design and negotiation of partnership agreements;
  • Support negotiations with partners and foster relationships with national and local level governments;
  • Manage and coordinate learning events and field visits.

Qualifications include:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Business, International Affairs/Development, Public Policy/Public Administration or another relevant field (Masters preferred);
  • Minimum of 5 years professional experience in program management, preference for international development, and monitoring, evaluation, and learning programs;
  • Strong Project Management skills and experience, ideally including significant experience negotiating and managing contracts, personnel development, and project delivery;
  • Experience implementing rural infrastructure projects;
  • Track record of partnership development with diverse set of stakeholders;
  • Demonstrated excellence in organization, management, and communication;
  • Demonstrated experience in management of data, data systems, or project documentation;
  • Clear, concise and efficient communication within team and excellent interpersonal skills;
  • Demonstrated ability to self-manage and work autonomously with minimal direct management oversight.
