Position Title: Advocacy, Mobilization and SBC Officer
Reports to: Cluster Manager

Background
The Family Guidance Association of Ethiopia (FGAE) in partnership with Amref Health Africa implements a USAID funded Integrated Youth Activity (Kefeta) in Dessie, Kombolcha and Samara-Logia cities. Kefeta envisions Ethiopian youth who are game changers: empowered to advance their own economic, civic, and social development; resilient in the face of shocks; actively promoting development within their communities and contributing to the country’s peace and prosperity. Kefeta will strengthen the youth ecosystem in Ethiopia with integrated, multi-sectoral, youth-centered programming aligned with the Positive Youth Development (PYD) approach.
Job Summary
This role is responsible for facilitating the process and implementation of youth-led advocacy, meaningful youth engagement in youth mobilization and social behavioral change in the IYA project. S/he will be responsible for working with young people, partners and stakeholders to instill the practice of meaningful youth engagement and participation in IYA’s mobilization work, and provide support to build the capacity of youth on youth-led advocacy. S/he will manage communications, publicity and media engagements to influence policy and social norms for positive youth development. S/he will play strategic facilitation role for the overall proceedings of advocacy, youth mobilization and SBC activities in IYA and beyond.
- Key Responsibilities / Duties / Tasks
The Advocacy, Mobilization and SBC Officer will provide guidance and facilitation to youth leaders and the Kefeta consortium partners regarding youth-led advocacy, mobilization, meaningful engagement and participation of young people throughout the Kefeta project activities. S/he will:
· Coordinate and identify advocacy topic with youth coalition leaders and task force committee and set lobby and advocacy agenda and coach and mentor the team to address their issue to responsible government structure;
· Organizes publicity, youth-led advocacy, knowledge sharing events and promotional opportunities and facilitate provision of logistics support to the events;
· Review reference materials and maintains information data-base and photo as well as audio libraries;
· Liaise with media outlets to ensure that the appropriate information and messages are reaching the target groups and the public at large;
· Develop and implement strategies to increase and improve public outreach;
· Prepare promotional materials on the project including pamphlets, videos, etc.;
· Prepare communications reports for the project management team and donor;
· Coordinate and guide the development and implementation of plans of monitoring of meaningful youth engagement at different partners and stakeholders organizations;
· Support in managing close relationships with relevant local and national stakeholders to advance cooperation and collaboration;
· Support the identification and assistance of capacity building needs of both governmental and national CSOs on youth-led advocacy and meaningful youth engagement and participation.
2. Qualifications & Experience
· Master’s/ Bachelor’s Degree in law, Human Rights, Social science or related field from a recognized university; or other relevant professional qualifications;
· Five years of work experience for Bachelor holders and three years for Masters, preferably with added exposure on youth-led initiatives or related experiences;
· Proven track record in coordination with multiple partners and strong networking skills;
· USAID related projects experience implementation in the area of youth mobilization, communication and advocacy is a plus;
· Certifications, training courses on advocacy and SBCC;
· Strong commitment to working with youth;
· Experience in youth mobilization, training and SBCC;
· Experience of organizing and working with youth associations and media agencies;
· Excellent partnership building, communication and management skills to work with organized youth group; private sector, government institutions, CSOs, CBOs and FBOs;
· Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills;
· Excellent analytical and report writing skills and ability to solve problems;
· Proficiency in computer software application, report preparation and documentation;
· Proficiency in written and spoken English and Amharic. Writing and speaking skills of additional local languages is a plus.

Minimum of 3/5 years prior work experience for MA/MSC and BA /LLB after graduation respectively.
