NTE was established in 1935 as Imperial Ethiopian Tobacco Monopoly, the National Tobacco Enterprise (Ethiopia) S.C (NTE) has a strong Ethiopian heritage and the global outlook of its parent company, Japan Tobacco International (JTI).
 
JTI is a leading international tobacco products company and the main shareholder in NTE. It owns 71% of the shares of NTE acquired from the Government of Ethiopia in 2016 and 2017. This is the biggest investment by a Japanese company in Ethiopia to date.

Currently, the Company is among the top public enterprises in terms of annual turn over, profitability, and its contribution to the economy as a whole.  Annual turn over has continually increased, on average by Birr 190 million, during the previous five years period.  Similarly, its contribution to the economy in terms of taxes paid, dividend to the shareholders and job creation to the citizen as a whole is persistently increasing.  Annual tax related contribution to the economy (VAT, Excise tax, Income tax, dividend tax etc) has currently reached more than Birr 700 million. In addition to this, the Enterprise with one cigarette factory at Addis Ababa and four tobacco development farms at Shewa Robit, Awassa, Bilatie and Wolaita has employed more than 934 permanent employees and 3,305 temporary and casual workers.

The enterprise, in its five years strategic plan, has aimed and diligently working towards a greater market expansion with a vision of exporting cigarettes subsequent to the full satisfaction of domestic demand.  Accordingly, due attention is given to the expansion of new tobacco development farms besides upgrading the existing farms with the objective of domestically covering the factory’s tobacco leaf demand; thereby saving a substantial amount of foreign currency.   Moreover, the management of the enterprise is thriving to achieve a competitive advantage through cost leadership and differentiation

Purpose:

  • Incumbent will be responsible for planning, coordinating, managing and organizing of all activities of the Leaf processing department, as well as Controlling processing activities and ensuring required quality and volume delivery together with efficient cooperation between leaf production, quality and operation teams. 
  • The incumbent will need to deeply cooperate with the above-mentioned teams’ leads, motivate, and guide them along the improvement process maximizing knowledge transfer.

Main Areas of Responsibility:

  • Ensures adequate, regular, and matter-of-fact analysis methods related to production line stoppages, breakdowns, and wastes. Identifies improvement opportunities, initiates, and manages the process of problem solving aiming at improvement of Production KPIs.
  • Ensures the efficient and effective allocation of manpower and equipment.
  • Conducts planned inventories of fixed assets of the processing shop floor,
  • Roll-out practical use of elements of Lean Manufacturing (5S3R, 5 Why etc.) to ensure processing areas improvement.
  • Responsible for preparation, optimization and roll-out of all leaf processes and procedures
  • Organizes and strengthens maintenance and regular machinery cleaning activities through optimization of relevant procedures, ensuring other factories’ best-practice implementation and through regular follow up and supervision of execution by production maintenance team.
  • Observes and monitors the observance of fire safety instructions and labor regulations by subordinates. Organizes and maintains his/her workplace in accordance with the requirements of 5S3R, rules and instructions for labor protection, safety, industrial sanitation, and fire safety.

  • Manages various tasks & projects as they arise and up on the request.
  • You can be assigned in any other duties seen fit by management.

Education:

  • Higher education, preferably BSC degree in processing related specialization

Work Experience:

  • Minimum of 5 (five) years in a similar role(s) / relevant experience, experience in processing industries.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Fluent in English (oral &written), MS office confident user, knowledge of Internal Regulations & safety policy of the company.
  • Strong interpersonal and influencing skills
  •  Profound knowledge of production technologies
  • Knowledge of Quality Standards, processes, and procedures; Standards of factory improvement programs
  • Advanced data analytics skills
